I have used Canon products for years (30D, 5D, 7D, G12 and a number of lenses including several "L lens") and have always been pleased with their products. But the A1300 is awful and does not deserve the Canon name. It is very slow to focus (if at all) and the pictures only came out clear about 50% of the time-even with good lighting. My wife and daugter both own a Canon A1100is which takes great pictures, so I though the A1300 would be a nice inexpensive point-and-shoot for those times when you don't want to take a more expensive camera. I took it on one trip and was so disappointed that I gave it away. Canon-please go back to including a full manual with your cameras. Having the manual on your computer only is all but useless!
I purchased the A1300 on April 19. I downloaded the complete user guide on my computer and it is not very user friendly. To choose a shooting mode (on pg. 68) the instructions are not complete. I have to hit the "flower" and then func set to get to the live mode. I'm still learning all the functions on my camera. I've taken a view pictures and am happy with them. I purchased this camera because I wanted an optical viewfinder (very important for me) on a small digital camera.
I have a basic criteria for any camera..It must have an eye level viewfinder, use double AA batteries and have a decent zoom. I was looking for another small camera and the A1300 does all this in spades! and what a bargain! Do not hesitate to purchase this camera.. My only criticism is there is no battery indicator (that I can find) ,and one starts the movie mode by accident...IE it starts too easily by an inadvertant touch.
